Miracle

We were lucky tonight to conclude our day with Heather and Jamie (easy to remember his name as it is the same as Jamie’s.) They were gracious enough to let us borrow them for a while this evening, to continue our test with motherhood. They were both so easy to work with.

Jamie and I (my Jamie) were talking today, and both of us realized how grateful we are that we have the opportunity to work with so many truly wonderful clients. More often than not, we are able to be at such ease with our clients – it does not seem like we are peforming a service, it instead seems like we are just spending time with old friends (albeit friends that we are constantly photographing and they are paying us to do so.) It makes our job so easy, and makes the day fly by to work with such an awesome group.

Well, that trend continued tonight with Heather & Jamie. We had the opportunity to spend time visiting with them, and they were gracious enough to share with us some of their pregnancy experience. I know that you can read all about the ‘miracle of childbirth’, but sometimes the only way that it can all be described as is in that term – miracle. Heather & Jamie went through much to get to this point, and we were lucky enough to capture this moment in time for them. They may not have another opportunity to experience this, and thus these photographs were all the more special.

Thank you for letting us be a part of this time, and for working with us – and to all of our clients; thank you for being so good to us!

Hot Summer Fun with Brittany & Steve

That title sounds borderline lewd. Far from it, it was just really really hot outside during our time with this super-fun good-time happy-go-lucky (I’m really into the hyphen) couple. As I sit here typing this, there is much conversation occuring between myself and Jamie making sure that we have everybody’s name correct. I know that it is Brittany, but as this is the first time meeting ‘Steve’ (I’m putting it in quotes in case this is not truly his name), in retrospect we are not 100% sure that this is the correct way of saying his name (i.e. – this may or may not be his correct name.)

In the event that it is not his correct name, on behalf of Otis & James, we apologize for this incident, and will be correcting our error as soon as we are able to double-check (there goes that hyphen again) our information on file. You see, we are safely tucked into the Otis & James resting nest for the evening (this too sounds borderline lewd – and what the what what is up with my use of parentheses??), we are not able to fully run this entry through our rigid fact checking system that we normally afford our entries. I truly have no idea what I have just typed. If your name is ‘Steve’, just disregard all of this hoo-ha.

With that out of the way, we had a great time during the shoot – we all did our best Austin Powers-as-photographer impressions – we really really had fun (two really’s, fifteen parentheses). We hope to work with the soon-to-be-married couple again!!

Here’s some proof –

Yonej!!

ed. Fact-Checking and e.mail communication has affirmed that this man is indeed, Steve.

Baby Madness at Otis & James!!!

We’re branching out, trying new things here at Otis & James – the new world of maternity portraits! We picked a hot day, but the studio was nice and cool. We were lucky enough to have a willing participant for the first part of the day’s experiment with motherhood – it was regular ‘the blog’ poster Reba. She was great (as usual) to work with. Here’s one of the shots. Baby madness to continue in a couple of posts – stay tuned.

Jenoy!

The State of US/Canadian Relations

We had the pleasure of working with Kara & Jeremy tonight – and we got the goods. This being our wedding season, it was fun to do something so different – no disrespect to our wedding peeps – but sometimes it’s nice to not have a party of 14 additional people to herd.

After asking how they celebrated the 4th (they’re Canadian), and then putting their lives in danger by placing them within feet of a moving locomotive, we managed to get some great shots. They rocked – we rolled, and below are some samples. The state of relations tonight was good!

Rick & Terri

It was another gorgeous (and hot) day in Minot – perfect for the wedding of Rick & Terri. At the start of the week, it looked like the wedding might be a little wet, but no such story here. We had a great time – it has been fun working with these two over the past few months, and we will miss our communications (that makes it sound very robotic – it was far from that.)

Here are some pics from the day – a big congratulations to the newlyweds!

DC & Bangs

This is kind of a post-script from our adventures last week. Jamie had the pleasure to visit regular blog poster Reba in Washington DC.

Here’s a photo

Jamie took this lovely photo of an important building. Isn’t it nice! But then Reba came back to North Dakota and got her hair cut.

Here’s a photo.

This post is classic because it is occuring well over a week after the actual visit to DC, and it has no story or message. It’s just an excuse to put these two pics up.

Enjoy!

Back Home with Matthew & Krissy!

After one of the hardest/longest/most miserable card ride of our lives, we returned to Minot, just in time for the wedding of Matthew & Krissy. The weather was beautiful, the ceremony was Nordic, and the Bride & Groom were great. It was a beautiful wedding!

Here’s some of the day – enjoy!

Troy & Deb . OJT2K5.7

I had the pleasure today of being a part of the wedding of two of my closest friends. At many weddings, there will be printed on various things the statement, ‘Today I married my best friend…’, it is overused, and is printed on everything. Today, however, I felt this to be the truth.

I have known Deb since Kindergarten at Snail Lake Elementary, and consider Troy to be one of my best friends. Maybe it could say ‘Today my best friends were married’.

We were thilled when this day came, and grateful to be a part of it. Congratulations Troy & Deb!

Here are some shots of the day – enjoy!

Back Home in Shoreview . OJT2K5.6

I had the pleasure of taking a trip back to the old hometown, Shoreview, for the Groom’s Dinner of my great friends Troy & Deb. It was the good ol’ days all over again. A hot summer day on Turtle Lake Road – for one night only I was 18 again.

The dinner was great – the company even better. It was great to commune with these friends I so rarely see. I ended the night with making amends with the family of one of my dear friends, Aisling. Previous to this night, my last encounter with the family occured with me face down in the snow after a morning and eventually evening of far too many Bloody Mary’s. Needless to say, not a great lasting impression to give. But on this muggy night, 10 or so years later I found myself in their kitchen, and any memories of old vanished. My Irish Family, I thank you for taking me back!

Here are some images from the night – enjoy!
